WHAT IS THE 2-CAGE SYSTEM?

Years back I was turned on to the 2 cage system for keeping birds. I love the idea because it gives your bird two cages to be comfortable in. It gives more stimulation opportunities and something that allows your bird to realize what mode you are in.

The first is the day time play and chill cage. This is a high stim cage filled with fun toys in particular exercise toys like swings and boings, puzzle toys and other highly interactive toys. The other is a night cage. Filled with softer toys, more chew toys and more “nesting / roosting” style stimulation.

The idea of this is to create a place to go to bed and a place to go hang out and look forward to seeing. Keep in mind with proper stimulation set ups you are trying to recreate nature. Your bird is wired and predisposed to explore. The two cage system helps accommodate this easier. Please note, I’m not suggesting not to interact with your bird. To learn more about my recommendation for the amount of times we suggest you interact with your bird search my article on this blog about the three stimulations for successful Aviculture.
